CommunitySEO
CommunitySEO is a search engine optimization package for Invision Power Board forum software. It adds SEO functionality to your forums, and in CSEO 2.0 we build on everything we had in CSEO 1 and take it a step further. Because of the excellent new SEO capabilities present in IPB3 itself, we've pushed ourselves to create an even better CommunitySEO release this time around, building on everything that we've previously had, and everything IPB 3 now offers.
New in CSEO 2.0
There are many improvements, changes, and even a couple of new features in CSEO 2 that we'd like to take a moment to mention. We did remove some functionality that went largely unused, just to keep the package lean, fast, easy to install, and completely useful to everyone who installs it. Below are the primary changes you would notice in CSEO 2.0 compared to CSEO 1.x.
--Only 2 file edits total to install CSEO 2.0. Rest is done as an "application" and through the hooks system.
--License key now configured in ACP
--URL parameter configuration to be stripped for spiders (new) (i.e. strip "mode=" in the URL for spiders)
--Ability to retrieve link titles for posted links
--Settings to remove HTML comments and whitespace to create smaller HTML pages (one page I tested went from 76kb to 58kb, for instance)
--Removed some of the generic CSEO FURL settings, since they can now be configured in ACP
--Full configuration of FURLs via ACP, with "package" support. This means you can have more than one package installed, create your own packages to share, add custom modification url rewriting through an AC, and more.
--Sitemap ping now done separate from sitemap build (so if you manually run task it doesn't ping several times in a row)
--Ability to create unlimited custom (static) sitemap files in the acp
--Sitemap browser, allowing you to edit and remove urls (and other properties such as priority) in the default sitemap files
--Several additional meta tag options
--Configurable robots.txt in ACP is now smarter, and should be able to find your root directory to write the robots.txt file properly (robots.txt must be in root directory, so if your forums are in /forums it has to be above this folder, etc.). Default robots.txt has been updated, and an option to restore your robots.txt to the default is available in ACP
--Social networking links fully configurable in ACP now
--Can sort trackbacks by hits or date now, pagination on front end working properly
--Trackback queue has been enhanced. Will show page titles if they have not yet been retrieved and has ability to process all trackbacks at once (i.e. to approve or deny all trackbacks in the queue without having to use a db query)
--Trackback browser allows you to browse trackbacks, where you can edit, delete, update page title automatically and more. Chart graph of the most popular topics and other stats added. Ability to sort, filter, approve and unapprove added, along with multimoderation. Much better trackback control over all.
--Pingback/refback stuff has been removed as most users did not need these features.
CSEO continues to support (from CSEO 1)
--Friendly URLs. You can use the old CSEO 1 friendly url syntax (default), the IPB 3 friendly urls (with some minor enhancements, and ability to configure/add to from the ACP), or you can create your own friendly urls however you wish to.
--Similar topics, supporting manual, fulltext or sphinx search types
--More meta tag options than we can possibly mention.
--Acronym expansion in posts and page titles (i.e. automatically expand "CSEO" when posted to "CommunitySEO" to concentrate keywords)
--Redirect options to help reduce and/or eliminate duplicate content
--Stats padding
--Automatically nofollow external links with whitelist settings to allow links to pass filtering
--Automatically route external links through an internal script to prevent page rank leaking and to log external clicks for statistics
--Social networking links
--Excellent extensive sitemaps you can submit to Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask.com. Automatically falls over to new files at limits so you stay within the official sitemap guidelines. Supports topics, forums, members, miscellaneous IPB sections, calendar, download manager, gallery and blog. CSEO 2.0 takes this feature even further with it's new features mentioned above.
--Per-forum meta tag management (as well as global meta tags and dynamic topic/forum meta tags).
--Topic trackback, allowing you to easily and automatically create reciprocal linking with related sites (includes whitelist and blacklist options for automatically approving/denying links, and a trackback queue so you can moderate them).
What's next
Soon we will be updating our tagging module to support IPB 3, and hope to accomplish this with 0 file edits.
